एक आग का दरिया बहा
लकीरें खिंच गए मादरे-वतन पे
उजाड़ ले गए आंधी एक गाँव को
वीरान सा पड़ा,धड़कता रह दिल.
बँट गया कारवां,वक़्त के मार से
मातम मनानें के लिए आंसू भी ना निकले
अब तो यादें धुन्धुलाते हुए आती हैं..
एक मुस्कराहट देखे ज़माना हो गया !!

Let me answer a question on Pakistan from Indian point of view:  How geography, military dominance, ideological transformation and dependence on external powers shaped Pakistan’s history, its rivalry with India and its continuing search for a stable national identity?  Pakistan’s geopolitical history is marked by a recurring contradiction. It seeks strategic autonomy and regional influence, yet much of its security architecture has depended on relationships with larger external powers, principally the United States and China. धुँधले पर्दे पर उभरती बचपन की दुनिया

बचपन में टेलीविज़न पर देखी गई कुछ कहानियाँ पूरी तरह याद नहीं रहतीं। उनका कोई चेहरा, कोई धुन, कोई संवाद या पर्दे पर काँपती हुई रोशनी भर हमारे भीतर रह जाती है। वर्षों बाद हम उन्हें खोजने निकलते हैं, तो पता चलता है कि कार्यक्रम से अधिक हम उस समय को खोज रहे थे, जिसमें हमने उसे पहली बार देखा था।  शायद पुराने कार्यक्रमों की खोज वास्तव में अपने ही बीते हुए रूप की खोज होती है।  इस पर पहले भी लिख चुका हूँ:  90s नॉस्टैल्जिया: एंटीना, केबल और एक पूरा बचपन और Search for Lost Stories of Childhood .  वे चेहरे, वे भ्रम और दूरदर्शन कभी-कभी कोई पुराना नाम स्मृतियों की पूरी शृंखला खोल देता है। बचपन में दूरदर्शन पर मैंने पहली बार मराठी फ़िल्म ‘ माझा छकुला ’ देखी थी। तब मैं शायद आठ-नौ साल का रहा होऊँगा। भाषा पूरी तरह समझ में नहीं आ रही थी, फिर भी कहानी, भावनाएँ और बच्चे की मासूमियत सीधे दिल में उतर गई थीं। बरसों तक यह फ़िल्म केवल धुँधली स्मृतियों में बसी रही। कुछ बरस बाद बाद में जब मैंने ‘ मासूम’ देखी, तो कहानी के भीतर कोई पुरानी पहचान-सी जागी। लगा, ऐसी ही भावनात्मक दुनिया से मैं कभी...

My Childhood and Bambi

I started this post to write about ideas, and abruptly, the mood changed. I was lost in the illusory display of childhood days. Imagination wove the reality of our lives daily and archived it as memories. I, too, have my share of memories. I had a pencil box with the cover of the Bambi movie imprinted on it. It always comes before my eyes whenever I think about my life. A sense of surrealism has taken over my imagination. When I was 3, my father lived in the Oak Park area at Mallital. I have faint memories of the school where I did my LKG education. Its name was St. John’s, established in 1844 , and it is located near Mallital. I visualize large images of Jesus on the church glass windows, the LKG class on the first floor, and the UKG class on the ground floor. I also remember myself struggling with alphabets. रामलीला: एक कथा, अनेक रंग

प्रसिद्ध अर्जेंटीनी साहित्यकार होर्खे लुई बोर्खेस का मानना था कि मानव सभ्यता मूलतः चार कथाएँ बार-बार सुनाती आई है: नगर की घेराबंदी, घर वापसी, किसी लक्ष्य की खोज और त्याग या बलिदान। रामायण में ये चारों शाश्वत कथाएँ एक साथ मिलती हैं। लंका की घेराबंदी, चौदह वर्षों बाद अयोध्या वापसी, सीता की खोज और पिता के वचन के लिए राम का राजसिंहासन त्यागना इसके प्रमुख उदाहरण हैं। शायद इसी कारण रामकथा कभी पुरानी नहीं पड़ती। कथा का आरंभ, संघर्ष और अंत सबको पहले से मालूम होता है, फिर भी रामलीला शुरू होते ही दर्शकों के भीतर वही भक्ति-भाव, वही उत्सुकता और वही भाव-विभोरता जाग उठती है। रामलीला ने इस परिचित कथा को ग्रंथों से निकालकर जनजीवन के बीच प्रत्यक्ष कर दिया। मैदान अयोध्या, जनकपुर, चित्रकूट और लंका बन जाते; गाँव और मुहल्ले के लोग राम, लक्ष्मण, हनुमान और रावण का रूप धारण करते; कारीगर बाँस, कपड़े और रंगीन कागज से महल, मुकुट और विशाल पुतले रचते। दर्शक जानते थे कि आगे क्या होने वाला है, फिर भी वनवास पर आँखें नम होतीं, भरत-मिलाप पर हृदय भर आता और रावण-दहन की प्रतीक्षा में वही बालसुलभ रोमांच लौट आता। इसलिए बीत...
